Volodymyr SolovianIn its propaganda, the Russian Federation tries to use all possible tools to influence the international community. Sport is one of the most critical areas for the Kremlin, apparently following the typical policy of the Soviet Union.
With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, many Russian athletes were suspended from competitions, or they competed under a neutral flag.
However, as of now, it is increasingly difficult to maintain such non-grata status because Moscow continues to pressure international sports committees through diplomatic channels.
To counter Russian propaganda in sports, combining diplomatic efforts and NGO actions is necessary to point out the direct connection between Russian aggressive politics and sports.
