The New Geopolitics Research Network is excited to welcome both undergraduate and postgraduate students to assist with the organizational and analytical tasks of our think tank. As an intern, you will have a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with NGRN experts and staff members, engaging in in-depth work on a range of topics. These topics include, but are not limited to, geopolitics, international relations, security and defense, cybersecurity, technology, and various other areas. This hands-on experience will allow you to develop valuable skills and gain insights into the complex world of global affairs.

Our Interns

Joshua Berg

Joshua Berg is a research intern at the NGRN, where he is analyzing NATO’s cyber deterrence strategy in response to AI-enabled threats – focusing on autonomous malware, deepfake-enabled disinformation, and hybrid warfare.

His work centers on cybersecurity, international security policy, and the geopolitical implications of emerging technologies, with a particular focus on alliance strategy and adaptive defense innovation.

Josh’s broader interests include strategic innovation, alliance resilience, and the intersection of AI governance and international security. He aims to contribute to a more adaptable and forward-looking global security architecture in an age of digital transformation.

Daryna Kukhar

Daryna Kukhar is an intern at NGRN, specializing in East Asian Studies. Her research focuses on Japan-Ukraine relations, Japan’s foreign and domestic policy, and digital strategic communications.

She has gained professional experience through roles and internships at the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Embassy of Ukraine in Tokyo and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Daryna holds Master’s degrees in Global Governance and Regional Strategy from Keio University, and in International Relations from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

Mariia Bondarenko

Mariia Bondarenko is an intern at NGRN in East Asian Studies. Her research interests include Japan-Korea relations, Japan’s security policy, Japanese pacifism and remilitarization, and Japanese society.

She has professional experience working and interning at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, and the Japanese Support for Ukrainian Students Association (JSUS).

Mariia holds a degree in International Relations from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and studied Japanese language at the Communica Institute in Kobe, Japan.

Sofiia Hudyma

Sofiia Hudyma is an intern at NGRN, specialising in Asian Regional Studies and Security Studies. Her research interests lie in East Asian security and economic architectures, as well as China’s foreign and security politics. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the same institution. Sofiia has interned at Lviv City Council, the EUTW Centre at NTU, and DataDriven.

Tetiana Ishchyk

Tetiana is a Master’s degree student at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University. Her scientific interests include: Chinese and Japanese languages; Asian culture and history; China’s foreign policy.
