The Ukrainian army’s ongoing counteroffensive on the northeastern section of the front led to the liberation of the city of Lyman, whose annexation, along with the entire Donetsk oblast, as well as the Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions (which are partially occupied by Russian troops) was publicly announced the day before at a ceremony in Moscow by Vladimir Putin.
The loss of occupied Lyman, a strategically important city in the Donetsk oblast, has been called a “withdrawal” by the Russian Defence Ministry, intended to allow the troops to take up better defence positions. This failed to convince Russian military bloggers and so-called “war correspondents” who had already sounded the alarm days earlier that the Ukrainian encirclement was closing.
This episode further covers topics of Danish authorities confirming that the leaks in both Nord Stream pipelines are under control, Russia being kicked off the UN’s aviation agency, the abduction of the head of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant by Moscow and several EU countries supporting Ukraine’s bid of becoming a NATO member.
To shed more light on these issues, TVP World invited Mykhailo Samus, the Director at the New Geopolitics Research Network.
